9/6: Wednesday Reflection
“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
Jesus calls His disciples then, and now, to follow Him, to be prophets in His name; and as it cost Him, it will cost us. Following Him will mean denying ourselves and accepting suffering in His name. Jesus calls us to take up our cross and follow Him. The cross refers to all the uncomfortable situations, pains and losses we experience because we believe and profess the name of Jesus. We are the followers of a crucified Christ. If He was crucified, it also means that we will be crucified.
How can we take up the cross and follow Him in our daily lives?
Lord Jesus Christ, help us to know what it means to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow you. Help us not to be afraid of the many pains that will come to us when we decide for you. Strengthen our will to fight for justice and work for peace in our world, Amen.
