8/4: Wednesday Reflection

Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you. When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.” – Matthew 21: 31-32

In one way or the other, each of us, we have all disobeyed the will of our Father, and that’s okay. The Father does not demand the perfection of his children. It is okay not to be perfect, but it is not okay to stay there and not continue walking. We nee conversion. We need to get back on the path. We cannot stay in the realm of beautiful words that prevent us from recognizing the Father’s will. Sometimes we are so concerned with perhaps saying the right thing, with believing the right thing, but we remain unmoved. We remain unmoved by the work that God wants to bring about in his precious vine. Talk is not going to impress God. Excuses are not going to impress God. Empty promises are not going to please God. James tells us in his epistle; “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22).

Lord, help us to answer your call with all sincerity. Grant us the strength to be dutiful stewards of your gift. May we answer your call to work in your vineyard, contributing our ability to the growth of your Church and the progress of the beautiful world You created, Amen.

How can we be dutiful stewards of God’s gift? How can we answer His call to work in His vineyard?
